Pour one cup of hot water into a large pitcher. Stir in 1 cup of sugar into the hot water until it dissolves. Let the water cool. Stir in 1/2 cup of lemon juice and l quart of cold water. Add ice cubes and chill the lemonade. Serve it in glasses with lemon slices or sprigs of mint.
